May be about to teach people how to suck eggs but.........

One thing I noticed on last week's club run was that I was constantly stuffing my face with cereal bars, Malt Loaf etc & nobody else was.

I reckon you need to be eating something every 45mins-1 hour so as not get hunger knock. Also have an energy drink too especially on cold rides as the body uses energy keeping warm & you can run out of energy a lot faster. I know this from experience of a winter ride we did to Whigfield Farm several years ago when I had to call home for a lift. Shocked

Sometimes it's not enough to just rely on the cafe stop especially when the cafe stop is 35-40 miles away. It could explain why a lot of people were struggling last week on a longer than average ride.

Drinks are very important at this time of year but cold water
on its own is difficult to consume. I have tried SIS Go just
to make it a bit easier to drink but find it far too sweet.
Does anybody know of any drinks that are ideal for this time of year
that aren't sweet and sticky?

Hi Dave ... GO is sticky but you don't need much in your bottle. It's a different animal to PSP22 ... PSP you can put as much as you like in but I'd still go with GO. I remember once asking the guy who set up SIS what was in GO. I asked him as it had a miraculous recovery effect during a ride in Majorca once. I couldn't believe it. I went from riding like an ant to riding like 10 men in 15 minutes. I jokingly said to him "is it full of drugs?" .. to which he replied "No ... but it's not far off!".

All these years later there's still no better product ... saying that you may want to give TORQ products a go.

Had a text from Mark Buckingham the other day, he can get Shotz energy bars for a team mate price of 25p each rather than the usual price of £1.50.

If anyones interested then give me a shout & I can give you Mark's number.

I always found SIS a bit too sweet, and although you can water it down to help, you reduce the carb content, which defeats the object a little. The major issue with SIS for me though was the fact that it didn't agreed with my stomach in larger volume on the longer rides.

Anyway, after sampling a few things I've ended up using High5. They have a good range of products that aren't too sweet and agree with my stomach! At the moment Discount Supplements (online) have a 'Race Faster Pack' on offer for £3 delivered, and there is no limit on the number you can order. The contents do vary (which is now stated on the website), but you get seven products in each pack. I ordered a few packs last week, and they contained 4 energy source sachets (High5's basic carb drink), and 3 isotonic sachets.

At the end of the day it's such a personnal choice, that you've just got to try a few things to see whats best.

Thanks for info. SIS products are very good I agree Chris but like you Mick
I have problems with indigestion. OK with their gels but not the bars and
although I mix Go weaker than recommended still find it too sweet.
I will try your recommendation Mick.

A drink i used in winter was Allsports winter training formula which looked and tasted more like a milkshake and was delicious even though it took some mixing.
